First Ascent & History Of Muztagh Tower
In
1956, a British-American team under the leadership of Nicholas Clinch made the
first ascent of the 7284-meter-tall Muztagh Tower in the Karakoram Range. The
successful expedition demonstrated the technical skill needed to scale this
difficult peak and represented a historic accomplishment in mountaineering. The
Northwest Ridge, the team's route, is still regarded as a major turning point
in the exploration of the Karakoram Range. The mid-20th century's spirit of
adventure and superior mountaineering skills are demonstrated by the first
ascent of Muztagh Tower.
