Broad Peak (8047M)
Broad Peak, the 12th highest mountain in the world at 8,047 meters, is located in the Karakoram Range in Northeastern Pakistan. The mountain is located along the western Baltoro glacier between K2 and Gasherbrum peak. The name of Broad Peak introduced by W.M.Convey a British explorer during his expedition in 1892. It lies on the Pakistani/Chinese frontier between K2 and the Gasherbrum peaks and was first climbed by an Austrian group in 1957, which included Kurt Diemberger and Herman Buhl. The first westerner who saw the peak was probably Lieutenant T.G. Montgomerie. He was surveying the mountains in the area and in 1856 he spotted some extraordinary peaks. Expeditions to Broad Peak start with a spectacular trek to base camp passing some of the most breath taking scenery in the Karakoram. We climb the peak by the 'classic' West Ridge route that rises directly above base camp on the Godwin Austen glacier. It is an excellent and exciting challenge for a mid-level as well as a senior level mountaineer.
